Herd, or “Cow Cups." 2021. About 12 inches stacked, terra cotta clay, wedgewood blue underglaze Inspired by the archeologically famous Vösendorf late Bronze Age feeding vessels with their unique zoomorphic shapes, I created a stacking cup set that can be arranged as a herd. Our contemporary US ideology is framed around competition, exploitation, and oppression, but our archeological record tells a story of human kindness spanning into prehistory. The original pieces show evidence of cow's milk protein stored in the unglazed pores of the ceramic, indicating these were used in assistive feeding.
